Copydan provides access to art, knowledge, and entertainment
-
We create a steadily growing dissemination of the use of art, knowledge, and entertainment by providing legal access to art, knowledge, and entertainment throughout the world.
-
We contribute to cultural diversity because the fees paid by users make it possible to produce and publish new works (also works of more limited popular appeal) in the fields of art, knowledge, and entertainment.
-
We collect fees for copyright owners for the use of their works and thereby support the economic foundation for the creation of new works.
-
We help to ensure that the production of works related to art, knowledge, and entertainment contributes a steadily increasing percentage of national GDP.
Users' access
Agreements with Copydan mean that it is possible to copy, see, listen to, and read works of art, knowledge, and entertainment of all types at a very reasonable price.
Copyright is precisely what provides this access and these opportunities. So it is sensible, necessary, and positive for users and society – both intellectually and financially.
Cultural diversity
Copydan helps to strengthen cultural diversity through its activities because most of the fees collected by Copydan create the peace for artists, writers, and musicians to work and leads to new production. Without copyright protection, society would be in a situation in which, at a professional level, only mainstream works would be produced, while the less immediately popular works would have to be produced under amateur conditions.
Users pay for new production
There is very little in modern society – apart from air (for the present) – that is free.
This is a natural consequence of the fact that, in broadly speaking any context, we pay for what is put into the creative process itself and in relation to production and distribution.
Copyright owners would be unable to make a living through their works if they were made available to everybody free of charge (to read, listen to, see, experience). Or if users obtain material without paying for using it. Paying to copy works instead of buying them is an economic necessity.
Copyright provides copyright owners with protection so that they can produce new works. The fees received for the use of their works by the people who create and produce them is distributed to them so that they have the opportunity to produce new works.
These fees, that are received by the creative and practising artists and other copyright owners, mean that they have the peace to work, for a shorter or longer period, as well as the time and space to create new works. And for producers and publishers it means that they can venture to publish works of more limited popular appeal.
Culture and GDP
A survey carried out by the EU Commission shows that as a whole the cultural industry in Denmark contributes approximately 6% to GDP. Copyright, which protects art, knowledge, and entertainment, can be given a good deal of the credit for this. Copyright is therefore an important contributor to the Danish economy and the development of society in general.
