Copydans elected management and business areas

Copydans organisation is characterised by the fact that the board and management work on the basis of consensus as a democratic principle – that is they attempt to reach unanimity regarding important decisions. In a similar spirit, we operate on the principle of equality (with regard to voting) between respectively publishers and producers and authors and practitioners when voting is necessary in exceptional cases.

Short description of every business area:

Copydan Tekst & Node
(The Collecting Society Copydan Writing)

The Society Writing was formed in 1980 and is today Copydans second largest contributor to the copyright owners. The Society enters into and manages licence agreements on the right to copy extracts of printed media for use in schools, commercial schools, upper secondary schools, teacher training colleges, universities, colleges and other educational institutions as well as in the business sector.

Copydan AVU-kopier
(The Collecting Society Copydan AV Copies for Education)

Similarly, the Society AV COPIES FOR EDUCATION (1981) covers the use of recorded radio and TV programmes in teaching.

Copydan Kabel-TV
(The Collecting Society Copydan Cable TV)

The Society Cable TV (1985) negotiates and collects remuneration from owners of communal aerials for the redistribution of radio and television programmes. In terms of remuneration, this Copydan Society has, in a few years, developed into the Society collecting the largest remuneration on behalf of the rights owners.

Copydan  Billedkunst
(The Collecting Society Copydan Visual Arts)

The Society Visual Arts (1986) is considerably smaller but covers a growth area. The Society manages the rights of pictorial artists and other visual authors within a number of income areas: remuneration for commercial resale of works of pictorial art (droit de suite), remuneration for the reproduction of pictorial art, photographs etc. in books and other publications or digital media and, in co-operation with the Society Writing, remuneration for the photocopying of pictures in printed media for use in educational institutions and businesses.

Copydan Båndkopi
(The Collecting Society Copydan Blank Tapes)

The latest addition to Copydan is the Society Blank Tapes (1992), which collects remuneration for the sale of blank audio and video tapes. This remuneration is collected on behalf of the copyright owners of the type of works (music, films, radio/television programmes, etc,) for which such tapes are typically used for copying. The Society is the third biggest contributor to the copyright owners.
